21st May 1990 – 5th January 2010 (19 years old when taken)
Johnson was on his way home from school when one of his neighbours was attacked, Johnson chose to stay to help despite his neighbour telling him to go. Johnson’s reply was ‘I’m not leaving you.’ His loyalty lead him to being run over, stabbed and shot. This occurred on the 21st April 2009 at 4pm. Johnson was 8 months in hospital fighting a courageous battle for life. Unfortunately Johnson lost this fight.
Johnson was born at the Edgware General hospital in London to the parents of Antoine and Adrienne. He was the eldest of 6 children and he was a role model for his brothers and sisters. Johnson was brought up in a Christian family and understood his moral responsibility for his brothers and sisters. This is best demonstrated from the words Johnson wrote in his college work:
“…I have a lot of responsibilities on my hands so that means I am like the second father in command when my Dad is not around, I have to make sure that my siblings are working to standard in school and behaving well.”
(Johnson Ndjoli 2008)
Johnson was a keen footballer; he attended many trials in order for this dream to come true and never missed training at weekends. He was known in the Deptford area for his talent as a footballer; as well as his passion for Manchester United. Also keen to ensure he progressed in all elements of his life he did well at college and was well-liked by staff and students.
Johnson was a kind, loving young man, and respectful to everyone. He was known for his big smile and was always smiling! He loved to make people laugh if they were feeling down or just to give them something to giggle about; he was always ready to help and his friends loved his loyalty and knew they could rely on him. Johnson retained a positive outlook on life and was looking forward to going to university or becoming a professional footballer.
Out of the Darkness comes light
So far the Ndjoli family have delivered assemblies in schools about what happened and this is an ongoing project.
The next step for the Ndjoli family is to set up the Johnson Ndjoli Foundation in order to spread the message of Crime Awareness through music and drama.
